The Modern Park

Dawson Forest today offers many amenities that outdoorsy people will love. Camping, Hiking, Fishing, it’s got it all! This page offers a detailed rundown of some of the many activities that you can do while enjoying your time at the park.

Boating

Dawson Forest offers plenty of areas to use small boats, Canoes, and Kayaks along its rivers and creeks. While you’re welcome to play in the river at any point, those wishing to paddle through the majority of the park via the Etowah River should check out the Scenic Etowah River Park and its services found here:

Once you are done with your river cruise, you will end up at the pull out point at Kelly Bridge Canoe and Kayak found here:

Geocaching

The adult form of eye-spy. Think you’ve got what it takes to find these elusive caches of treasure? Whip out your GPS and compass and navigate your way to where these secrets are held. More info on Geocaching can be here.

Fishing and Hunting

Dawson Forest offers a variety of fishing and hunting at various times during the year. For most activities, a hunting or fishing license is required by law. There are also group hunting activities.

Camping

Want to test your mettle in the great outdoors, give camping a try. The park offers many different campgrounds dotted throughout the park. Most will require a hike to get to however so plan accordingly. Campsites can be found on the maps page. Look for trees marked with white paint for the designated campgrounds. Large group camping is also available but requires special permission. Camping fees for overnight are $7 and can be paid at the information center near the blockhouse.

Horseback Riding

The park offers several riding trails for horses, as well as various different mounting points. Check out the various trails on the maps page. There is a $7 per person riding fee made payable at the information center.

Hiking

Dawson Forest offers miles of hiking trails all throughout the park. There is no fee for hiking, but park hours are limited, and staying past them requires a camping fee. Come prepared with lots of water, some snacks, and a good pair of boots. Hiking trails can be found on the maps page.

Urban Exploration

Explore the various ruins of the GNAL for some adventure. For legal reasons, I recommend that you don’t jump any fences and obey the do not enter signs. The author of this page bears no responsibility for any laws broken by individuals inspired by it to do silly things.
